Location: Charlottesville
The Business Manager will be a key contributor to the day-to-day accounting operations of several media brands and provides administrative support within the Finance and Accounting function including: Cost Accounting, Business Support, Financial Planning and Reporting, Tax, Audit, Accounting Services and Centralized Transactions. Position will be based in Charlottesville Virginia.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the preparation of information needed for the monthly financial close and submission of information to prepare month end financial information and reports for multi-brand media location
- Account analysis and reconciliation, including prepaid accounts, accruals and inter-company reconciliations
- Journal entry preparation and review
- Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable – process, review and issue resolution
- Commission calculations and reviews
- Assist with special projects and drive process improvements
- Adhere Corporate office stated deadlines
- Monitors processes and the effectiveness of business controls and initiates improvements.
- Ensures proper control, recording and classification of transactions.
- Uses appropriate systems and tools to input data, generate reports, conduct specialized research projects and respond to inquiries.
- Maintains established service level agreements with appropriate internal and/or external clients and provides quality customer service.
- Prepares and reviews journal entries, schedules, filings and various reports including sales and purchase.
- Assists with researching, reconciling and resolving balance sheet, income statement and/or statement of cash flow inconsistencies.
- Assists with period end consolidations and financial statement preparation (i.e. income statements and/or balance sheets), including reviewing and interpreting financial reporting requirements in accordance with GAAP and Monticello Media policies.
- Protects organization’s reputation by keeping information confidential.
- Provide documentation from accounting records in support of company information audits.
- Respond to all Corporate requests, audit requests & budget preparation
- Processing Accounts Payable as it relates to the day-to-day vendor relationship management, obtaining approvals for all vendor invoices, general ledger coding, and processing functions
- Responsible for submitting all expense accruals
- Prepare daily cash deposits as well as the processing of credit card payments & apply to appropriate invoices
- Monitor and administer trade accounting functions for corporate reporting as well as in the traffic/billing system
- Prepare commissions reports as related to billing and collections for both the national rep firm and the local sales staff
- Maintenance of all files related to leases and contracts for the market
- Process weekly and monthly billing along with reporting for end-of-month Accounts Receivable close and credit & collections analysis
- Administer and control employee records and assist with data entry for purposes of preparation and submission of payroll; ensure tax deposits are made on a timely basis
- Assist with administration of employee benefit plans, including but not limited, medical insurance, and dental insurance as necessary
- Maintenance of the EEO program, FCC related reports and hiring procedures. Oversee or act as EEO Administrator for the market
- Responsible for posting of all HR related required notices at station location and working with market to insure that station websites are updated with required notices
- Oversee the Traffic department
- Assist department heads in new employee orientation.Reviews all new hire packages for completeness and appropriate signatures
- Assist Market Manager and other department heads with station and/or personnel issues
- All other duties as deemed necessary by corporate or local market management
- Reconcile Barter Accounts
- Prepare daily bank deposits
- Verify credit and set credit limits within software
- Cash management
- Coordinate other markets as needed
Qualifications
- Strong understanding of accounting terms and concepts
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Team player with a positive attitude and a focus on business issues
- Capacity to meet deadlines and work under pressure while managing multiple projects
- Strong computer skill with a working knowledge of business systems such as Microsoft Excel
- Experience with Quick Books andthe ability to learn new systems quickly. Marketron business systems a plus
- Strong analysis, problem solving, and research skills; can gather, assess and interpret information and comprehend financial impacts of business decisions
- Good judgment & decision-making skills
- Effective communications with multiple levels of employees and clients
- Stress tolerance & flexibility especially when working under pressure and on multiple projects with tight deadlines; ability to deal with ambiguity
- Ability to plan and organize, get things done in a team–oriented environment
- Excellent attention to detail and optimal work standards
- Minimum 2-3 years of related experience, in an accounting/financial analysis role
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business with an accounting or finance emphasis preferred
- Radio experience is preferred
